Hi, everyone!
So, like I said, I'm Amy. I'm originally from Appleton, Wisconsin, but I've lived in Lincoln, Nebraska for five years now. I earned my undergraduate degree in English, German, and secondary education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and now I'm working on my master's in German and education, as well as a post bac. program that will lead me to obtaining my certificate to teach secondary English. Phew. I say again: overachiever. Actually, I just like to keep my options open. I am also considering training to be a yoga teacher sometime in the not-so-distant future, but money is currently an obstacle.
Here's a photo of my family and I when I graduated from UNL. From left to right: my dad, Diddi (my sister's exchange partner from Germany), me, my sister, Sara, my brother, Steven, and my mama.
As a graduate student, I am also a teaching assistant, which in my case means I teach one section of beginning German. I am teaching German 101 for the second time this semester, and I love it. It is my favorite part of grad school.
Last summer on July 24, I married the love of my life, Jesse. I will leave the story of our relationship for a later post, but we were officially together for about four years before getting married. We took a trip to Kansas City to celebrate our first anniversary, which was so much fun. From what I saw, I really liked Kansas City, and I would like to spend more time exploring the city at some point. (Also, it's difficult to talk about Kansas City without using the word "city" too many times. I suppose I could say something like "metropolis," but that's not something I would say in normal conversation...)
This is one of my favorite wedding photos. It was actually taken by our friend Tony who was one of Jesse's groomsmen while we were getting professional photos taken in a park after the ceremony. I just love that one of my absolute favorite pictures of that day came from a friend.
Things I enjoy and can see myself blogging about include yoga and (surprisingly) jogging, books and movies, cooking and baking, food in general, travel, and relationships with friends and family. One thing that Jesse and I have started doing is visiting the various burger joints listed in George Motz's book Hamburger America, and I plan on posting each time we visit one of these burger restaurants.
As a preview, here is a photo of Jesse and I at the first burger joint we visited from this book, the Hamburg Inn No. 2 in Iowa City, IA.
By the way, I LOVED this place. So delicious.
Well, that's all for now. Tune in next time for the thrilling continuation of... this blog!

Our New Blog!
Hi, everyone!
If you don't know me, I'm Amy. More about that later, but here is a photo of me with a ginger bread house:
I have a long and complicated history with blogging. (Ok, it's not that complicated.) I have tried blogging a few different times for a few different reasons, but it has always been short-lived. This is very similar to the way I took dance lessons. I quit when I was 5, because I hated wearing leotards. I quit when I was 12, because I accidentally got stuck in a class full of younger kids. I finally stuck with it in high school, but then had to quit again in college to focus on my three majors. Yes, you read that right. Overachiever.
Anyway. Last night my husband, Jesse, and I were talking about scheduling a time to write in our journals together, since we had both been wanting to journal more. He recently spent a year writing in a journal every single day. This was his gift to me on our first anniversary: a journal documenting our first year of marriage. All together now: Awwwww! But then after this little project, he stopped journaling all together. I had a similar experience: I stopped journaling after a few months of consistent journaling brought on by the new year and those new year resolutions.
Then Jesse suggested that we start a couple's blog. I had been thinking of starting another blog, thanks to my friend Tory, so I immediately jumped on the idea, and here we are! And here is a photo of Jesse destroying my ginger bread house:
We'll see how long this whole blogging thing lasts, but until then: Woohoo! We have a couple's blog! How cute!
Until later,
Amy
